Select the most appropriate congress topic: Développement des services de réadaptation

Background

Hemiplegia can be accompanied by a deficiency of sensitivity, neuropsychological disorders. In Togo, the prevalence varies between 1.7 and 2.44 for 1000 inhabitants. These hemiplegic patients are entitled to physiotherapy support. The geographical accessibility of a physiotherapy room therefore plays an important role in this management. What is the situation in Togo, about the handicap that hemiplegic subjects are experiencing?

Aims

Assess geographical accessibility to functional rehabilitation services (Physiotherapist care Unit) in Togo about hemiplegic patients.

Method

It’s a prospective cross-sectional study conducted with adult hemiplegic patients of both sexes. It was carried out in each of the major hospital centres of the 06 health regions of Togo.

In order to address the difficulties associated with the geographical accessibility of the units of care.

Results

This presentation helps to educate the public on the issue of access to physiotherapy care units in Sub-Saharan Africa and help to understand this: The absence of signs, Suitable access road, location of functional rehabilitation services, less wide interior space and the lack of waiting room are all problems that make access difficult for patient’s hemiplegic, which further complicates their care.

Discussion and Conclusion

For a good management of hemiplegic patients, there needs to be good accessibility of physiotherapy services, by the adoption and respect of access standards during the construction of the services in order to allow equitable access to all.
